Females
. Mandible with five distal teeth and evenly developed; clypeus long; antennal scrobe ecarinate or present; frontal angle of ocellar triangle acute or right; vertex straight. Pronotum without transverse pronotal carina and with posterior pronotal sulcus absent; parapsidal signum with anterior half continuous; anterior margin of propodeal declivity not setose; mesopleuron with lower mesopleural fovea opened, mesopleural suture opened, and posterior mesopleural sulcus absent. Forewing with R1 vein distinct. Mesotibia spinose Metatrochanter with lateral expansion. Metasoma with distal spiracle of metasoma small. Posterior hypopygeal margin projected uniform. Genitalia with 2vv as long as 1vv, and apex slender; sting (1vv+2vv) short [surpassing 3vv apex]; T9 apex very swollen; 1vf strongly curved upward; 1rv curved or strongly curved, with 1rv ventral process large, and posterior process short.
Males
. Frons
coriaceous
, with metallic reflexion. Clypeus short; median clypeal carina lower than epistomal suture, in lateral view; antenna not elongate; antennal scrobe ecarinate or present. Pronotal disc with transverse carina complete. Metapostnotum sometimes with first pair of metapostnotal carina and metapostnotal-propodeal suture convergent; propodeal declivity with sculpture present. Mesopleuron with lower mesopleural fovea and mesopleural suture opened. Forewing with Cu vein distinct of cu-a and R-rs&Rs vein distinct. Hind wing with one proximal and four distal hamuli. Posterior hypopygeal margin uniform or uniform Genitalia with paramere as long as or longer than basiparamere; inner margin of basivolsella angled; cuspis arm long.
Distribution
. This group rangs from Nearctic to Neotropical region.
Remarks
. This species-group was described by
Evans (1965)
as belonging to
Rhabdepyris
(
Trichotepyris
)
, and was easily recognized by having the eye small, by lacking a transverse pronotal carina, and by having a posterior pronotal sulcus. All these characteristics were observed as diagnostic to
megacephalus
in this revision. We hypothesize these are character state reversions within
Anisepyris
, because all other species-groups share the following characteristics: the eye large, the transverse pronotal carina present, and the posterior pronotal sulcus present. The
megacephalus
species-group is composed of 31 species (
Table 1
).
