Remarks:
Daday (1889a)
reported this species from the following localities: Péczel (
Hungary
), Déva (now in
Romania
), and Rumunyesty (now in
Romania
). Reexamination of Daday’s specimens from Péczel during present study it turned out that these are representaives of
Chernes hahnii
. Furthermore, neither of the samples from the other two localities belong to
C
.
montigenus
, even though they are chernetids. Likewise, the specimen reported from
Hungary
by
Kárpáthegyi (2007)
also belongs to
Chernes hahnii
. The specimen earlier reported from the Bakony Mts as
C
.
montigenus
(Novák 2015)
proved to be a misidentification, and belongs to
C
.
similis
. As a consequence,
C. montigenus
is excluded from the Hungarian fauna list.
