Structure.
Lateral margins of clypeus, interantennal area, frons, vertex and gena densely and coarsely punctured; mesosoma densely and coarsely punctured; propodeum densely and coarsely punctate throughout; hind tibial spurs acute.
Color
. Setae and body black and from the second reddish segment of metasoma with reddish setae; wings dark with violaceous reflections (

).

Structure.
Clypeus, interantennal area, frons, vertex, and gena densely and coarsely punctate; mesosoma densely and coarsely punctate; propodeum densely and coarsely punctate throughout.
Genitalia

). Parameres converging towards the apex with a very sharp angle; apical half ventral face polished with some sparce setae and the other half with sparse setae; volsellae with short sparse setae
Color
. Setae and body black and from the third reddish segment of metasoma with reddish setae; wings resembling females (

).
Valid subspecies.
Scolia dubia dubia
Say, 1837
is differentiated by two oval yellow spots on third abdominal tergum (
Mackay 1987
).
