TYPE SPECIES.— Fidicina picea Walker 1850: 81 . ( Mexico ) REMARKS.—The genus Fidicinoides was established for species characterized by short and narrow lateral metascutellar plates that do not reach the timbal covers and timbal covers that do not cover the timbal cavities completely ( Boulard & Martinelli 1996 ). Species of Fidicinoides also present a head that is not very prominent but noticeably wider than the mesonotum and a wide and flattened cruciform elevation ( Santos et al. 2010 ). Fidicinoides currently exhibits greater species diversity and extends farther north than does Fidicina (Sanborn 2011a; 2013; 2014a; 2016b; 2020b, d; Sanborn & Maes 2012 ; Maes et al. 2012 ; Sanborn & Heath 2014 ). DISTRIBUTION.—Species of the genus have been reported from Argentina , Bolivia , Brazil , Colombia , Costa Rica , Ecuador , El Salvador , French Guiana, Guatemala , Guyana , Honduras , Mexico , Nicaragua , Panama , Peru , Trinidad & Tobago , and Venezuela ( Metcalf 1963a ; Sanborn 2011a; 2013; 2014a; 2016b; 2018c; 2019b; 2020b, e; Sanborn & Maes 2012 ; Maes et al. 2012 ; Sanborn & Heath 2014 ).
