Miconia rhytidophylla Naudin (1850: 139) . Shrubs 1.40–1.80 m tall. Light gray and smooth rhytidome. Branches erect, cylindrical, not winged, rufous; branches, petioles, inflorescences, bracts and hypanthium with dendritic and glandular persistent trichomes. Leaves opposite, isophyllous; petioles circular 9.1–10.3 mm long; leaf blades 13.6–16.1 × 4.3–6.5 cm , chartaceous, discolored, symmetrical, oblong or elliptical, base cuneate or rounded, apex acuminate or acute, margins entire or serrate, not ciliate, leaves abaxial surface,with dendritic trichomes, leaf veins 5, suprabasal; ant domatia absent. Paniculate glomerules 8.7–12.3 × 4.3–9.1 cm , terminal; bracts 3.9–4.2 mm long, lanceolate; bracteoles not seen. Flowers 5- merous, sessile; hypanthium ca. 1.2 mm long, oblong, smooth, glabrous; calyx simple, persistent, glabrous; lacinia triangular; petals 2.1–2.3 × 1.4–1.5 mm , white, obovate, symmetrical, apex rounded, base attenuate, margins not ciliate, glabrous; stamens 10, isomorphic, anthers 1.7–2 mm long, white, oblong, straight, apex truncate, anthers base rounded complete, 1 apical pore, connective not prolonged, filament 1.7–2 mm long, glabrous; ovary 1.1 × 0.8 mm , half-inferior, placentation axillary, 5-locular, with glandular trichomes; style ca. 4.2 mm long, straight, glabrous. In Brazil it occurs in Amazonian forests ( Goldenberg & Caddah 2015 ). In the reserve, it occurs in “igapó”, in open areas on sandy soil that are kept under the water during part of the year. Comments:— This species is frequent in the reserve, along the margins of lakes and river. This is the only species of Miconia that occurs in these environments.
