†
Melanopsis buccinulum Melleville, 1843
Original source.
Melleville 1843
: 95, pl. 4, figs 13-15.
Type horizon.
Thanetian, Paleocene.
Type locality.
"Chalons"
[
Chalons-sur-Vesle
], France.
Remarks.
Perhaps unaware of
Melleville's
publication,
Deshayes (1862
: 469, pl. 31, figs 11-13) erroneously described this species as new: he marked the name with
"Desh."
, provided a Latin diagnosis and did not list any citations. Judging from the illustrations in both works,
Deshayes'
species is undoubtedly the same as
Melleville's
. Moreover, both were recorded from the same locality (
Chalons-sur-Vesles
).
