The genus Monopeltis is sister to the South African genus Dalophia (Gray, 1865) ( Measey & Tolley 2013 ) . The phylogenetic relationships of M. galeata in relation to other congeneric species remain unknown. A comprehensive revision of this species was provided by Gans & Lehman (1973) . The single known specimen of M. galeata from Equatorial Guinea (Corisco Island), currently held at the ANSP and labelled as ANSP 9682, is a possible paralectotype ( Gans & Lehman 1973 ). Specimens examined. No specimens of this species have been found in the examined collections.
