Pronotum with a pair of anterior prono- tal spines, which define the anterior border of a crown of spines on the promesonotum; promesonotal disc lacking spines; lateral pronotal spines high and sharp; and propo- deal spines usually straight ( Mackay et al. 2004 ). Distribution. Mycocepurus smithii is widely distributed throughout Central and South America, extending from Mexico all the way south to Argentina including many Caribbean islands ( Kempf 1972 ; Fernández et al. 1996 ; Mackay et al. 2004 ; Rabeling et al. 2011 ; Franco and Feitosa 2018 ).
