Hesperis pendula
subsp.
campicarpa
(Boiss.) F. Dvořák
in Spisy Přír. Fak.
Univ. J. E. Purkinje Brně 491: 113. 1968
.
Notes.
– Dvořák reduced the species to a subspecies of
H. pendula
,
and further divided it into three varieties and two forms that he distinguished on the basis of overlapping differences in fruit length and cauline leaves shape, as well as on slight differences of the indumentum at sepal apex. It is beyond the scope of this study to evaluate those varieties and forms, and the
types
of three of which were not available for us and none was based on taxa described by Boissier.
Although
H. pendula
DC.
is used here as the accepted name for the present, and following entries, it is an illegitimate later homonym of
H. pendula
Murr.
(Novi Comment. Soc. Regiae Sci. Gott. 6: 38, tab. 6. 1776). The former name is so widely used for almost two centuries, and a proposal to conserve it and reject the latter has already been submitted (
AL-SHEHBAZ & GERMAN, 2018
).
