Holotype (male): South Africa : Cape Prov. , Swellendam District , Langeberge Mountains , Tradouw Pass , 1400 ft. , on damp rocks, stn. 42, 33° 57' S , 20° 42' E , 13 March 1954 , J. BalfourBrowne ; deposited in the BMNH . Paratypes : Same data (2 BMNH ) . Diagnosis. Recognized among all members of the genus by the fimbriate pronotal margin (Fig. 7). Description. Size (length/width, mm x 100) holotype : body (length to elytral apices) 233/104, head 56/63, pronotum 48/93, elytra 152/104. Dorsum piceous, legs dark brown. Granules of frons disc and pronotal disc similar in size, those on clypeus smaller, sparser. Maxillary palpi robust, length ca. 3/4 width of anterior margin of clypeus, ultomere ovoid, slightly longer and wider than penultomere. Mentum anterior margin weakly arcuate, with tiny apicomedian process; disc with large median depression. Pronotum with granules comparatively sparse, especially on lateral depressions; lateral margins markedly fimbriate; disc very weakly transversely convex. Elytral intervals: 2nd with three costae, first longest and highest, length of second subequal that of noncostate sections; 4th raised slightly in four short subcostae; 1st nongranulate in over basal 1/3, widest at base and gradually tapering posteriorly where punctures become confluent; 3rd nongranulate over basal 1/3, remainder with unilinear row of granules, not tapering posteriorly like 1st interval; 5th and 7th each with unilinear row of granules. Elytral apices each with acuminate process. Prosternum flat in front of coxae. Metasternum with oval depression. Females with last sternite posterior margin arcuate, basomedial depression very shallow; last tergite posterior margin arcuate, bearing fringe of short stout spines. Aedeagus length 0.62 mm ; mainpiece bulging in middle in ventral aspect, slightly arcuate and gradually decreasing in width in lateral aspect, ridged process very short; gonop ore process heavily sclerotized, thin in ventral aspect, wide in lateral aspect; membranous process long, about twice as long as gonopore process (Fig. 8). Etymology. Named in reference to the fimbriate pronotal margin. Distribution. Currently known only from the type locality in the Langeberge Mountains of Cape Province (Fig. 70).
