Distribution in Macaronesia. possibly Madeira archipelago, Azores ( Porteiro et al . 2010 ), Canary Islands ( Brito et al . 2002 ; Brito Hernández & Sancho Rafel 2003) and Cape Verde ( Reiner 2005 ; Wirtz et al . 2013 ; Hanel & John 2014 ). Remarks. no specimens from Madeira could be located in natural history collections. Wirtz et al . (2008) mention that M. mobular sightings may eventually be M. tarapacana . Until a solid proof of the occurrence of this species in Madeiran waters appears, we consider the presence of this species as in need of confirmation.
