The genus is characterized by bipectinated antennas in male and filiform in females an elongated shape of the forewings, where the dorsal tooth is well developed; ground colour is chocolate-brown, often with a hint reddish colour; apex, discal spot, the basal streak toward the margin of forewings are pale yellowish brown ( Schintlmeister 2007 ). Hexafrenum is globally represented by approximately about 23 species are known and ranges from Afghanistan , Pakistan , the Himalaya, China , the Far East, Taiwan , Indochina, Sundaland, Java, the Philippines and Sulawesi ( Wu & Fang 2004 ; Schintlmeister & Pinratana 2007 ). In this study, a new species is described, Hexafrenum tangkhula Irungbam & Schintlmeister , sp. nov. from NE India .
