Proc. Biol. Soc.
Washington
, 14:23
.
TYPE SPECIES:
Sciurus davidianus
Milne-Edwards, 1867
.
SYNONYMS:
Rupestes
Thomas, 1922
.
COMMENTS: Includes
Rupestes
and
Sciurotamias
as subgenera; reviewed by
Moore and Tate (1965)
.
S. davidianus
has a penile duct and Cowper's glands, and its glans and baculum are similar to those of
Ratufa
;
therefore,
Callahan and Davis (1982)
removed this taxon from the
Tamiasciurini
(
Moore, 1959: 182
) or Tamiini (
Gromov et al., 1965:124
) and tentatively referred it to
Ratufini
.
