Type host and locality: Labeo coubie , Volta Lake, Ghana . Other records: Labeo coubie , Niger River (Bamako), Baoulé River (Missira), Mali ( Guégan et al. 1988 ). Present records: Labeo coubie , Gambia River near the hotel Simenti (sand beach 13° 01.543’N ; 13º 17.471’W , gravel beach 13º 01.395’N ; 13º 17.350’W ), Mare de Simenti ( 13º 01.790’N ; 13º 17.608’W ), Gambia River near the Campement du Lion ( 13º 01.493’N ; 13º 14.491’W ), Niokolo-Koba National Park, Senegal . Site: Gill lamellae. Type specimen: Holotype RMCA M.T. 35.516 B. Material examined: 8 unflattened and 10 flattened specimens in GAP . Comparative material examined: Dactylogyrus oligospirophallus Paperna, 1973 : holotype ( RMCA M.T. 35.516 B) from Labeo coubie (see Paperna 1979 ). FIGURE 6. Dactylogyrus oligospirophallus Paperna, 1973 . A. anchor; B. ventral bar; C. dorsal bar; D. hooks; E. needle; F. vagina; G. copulatory organ. Description: Body length 378 (247–516; n = 8); greatest width 87 (52–135; n = 8). Haptor 69 (54–82; n = 5) long, 95 (77–132; n = 5) wide. Single pair of anchors (dorsal): inner length 45 (39–49; n = 10); outer length 30 (27–33; n = 10); inner root 21 (17–23; n = 10) long; outer root 3 (2–4; n = 10) long; point 16 (12–19; n = 10) long. Two bars: dorsal bar 24 (21–26; n = 10) long, 5 (3–5; n = 10) wide; ventral bar 10 (9–11; n = 9) long, 1 (n = 9) wide. Hooks 7 pairs, dissimilar in size; hook lengths (n = 5): pair I = 21 (20–24); pairs II, IV = 24 (23–25); pairs III, V = 25 (23–26); pairs VI, VII = 19 (17–20). Needles (1 pair) located near hooks of pair V. Vagina sclerotized, worm-like, 18 (16–20; n = 4) long. Copulatory organ comprises a coiled tube of about 1.5 rings and articulated accessory piece; total length 18 (21–25; n = 10); tube trace-length 68 (60–75; n = 10). Remarks: The morphometrical features of our specimens from Labeo coubie correspond well with the description of D. oligospirophallus by Guégan et al. (1988) , especially with respect to the shape of the copulatory organ and the presence of a sclerotized vagina. Also, comparison of our specimens with the holotype of D. oligospirophallus (RMCA M.T. 35.516 B) designated by Paperna (1979) clearly supports conspecificity of these specimens. In addition, our detailed examination of the holotype confirmed the presence of a vestigial ventral bar, which was not depicted in the original ( Paperna 1973 ) as well as in the supplemental ( Paperna 1979 ) descriptions.
