Diagnosis.
Buckler in advance of D1 fin present, antrorse infraorbital spine absent, anterior infraorbital spines short (7–10% SL), P1 fin length moderate (28–31% SL), P1 1st fin free ray length moderate (26% SL), eye large (34–36%HL), snout length moderate (13–14% SL), nape and breast lack scales, belly with scales, 12–14 gill rakers length moderate, body lacks dark pigmentation except for inner surface of P1 fin black with clear edges and black spot on D1 (not visible on
holotype
).

, A 12–13, P1 11 + 3, length moderate (28–31% SL), C 8 + 7, vertebrae 11 + 16–17, 10 bucklers along base of D1, GR moderate length (1.1–2.2 mm) with 1–2 + 11–12 + rudiments, llsc 60, nape and breast lack scales, belly 75–100% scaled, nuchal spine long extending to 3rd dorsal fin buckler, no ocular spines, opercular spine short extending to gill opening, preopercular spine short extending to gill opening, preopercular ridge present, cleithral spine long extending to below nuchal spine tip, eye large 34–36% HL, P1 fin 1st free ray length moderate (26% SL). Pterygiophore interdigitation pattern: //1/2/1/1/1/1/1/1/1/1/2/1/1/1/1/1/1/1/1/
Coloration.
The three preserved specimens are uniformly brown with dark blotches on the head. The D1 fin in the
paratypes
has remnants of a black area in the anterior three membranes while the
holotype
D1 membrane is faintly gray. The inner surface of the P1 fin is black with a clear edge.
Distribution.
Known only from
type
material collected at Nazareth and Saya de Malha Banks, western Indian Ocean.
Etymology.
Noun in apposition formed arbitrarily from the senior author’s grandsons Jacob and
Cade
.
