Leucothrips
Reuter
:
Of the five species placed in this genus, populations identified as
theobromae
have been studied from various places between
Trinidad
,
Colombia
and southern
Mexico
. However, at present
theobromae
can be distinguished from
furcatus
only by the presence of a small red pigmented area at the base of the antennae. These tiny species appear to have been dispersed in recent years across the Pacific (Mound
et al
. 2016), and
nigripennis
was dispersed around the world many years ago by the trade in cultivated ferns (
Mound 1999
).
