Ranunculus grandiflorus
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
1
: 555. 1753
.
"Habitat in Oriente." RCN: 4097.
Neotype
(Davis,
Fl. Turkey
1: 168. 1965): Herb. Tournefort, "
Ranunculus cappadocicus
aconitifolio flore luteo maximo" (
P-TOURN
)
.
Current name:
Ranunculus grandiflorus
L.
(
Ranunculaceae
).
Note:
Davis (in
Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh
23: 113. 1960) discussed the absence of material and treated the name as a
nomen ambiguum
but later (1965) used the name, treating a Tournefort collection at P as the type. In this, he was followed by Jelenevsky & Derviz-Sokolova (in
Novosti Sist. Vyssh. Rast.
16: 117. 1979) and others. As there are no original elements for the name, this is accepted as a formal neotypification (for Linnaeus did not make a study of
Tournefort's
herbarium).
