The identification of Afrotropical
Thecophora
is extremely difficult using the existing literature because the species descriptions are usually inadequate for the separation of closely related species, many of which are very similar. In most cases only females can reliably be identified. The interpretation of the Afrotropical species is summarised in the key below.
At present there are some 11
Thecophora
species recognised in the Afrotropical Region. Additional species can be expected, however, since a few of the male specimens which came to my attention might represent undescribed species.
