Helix subprofuga
var.
hoemastoma
Bellini, 1915: 170
Type
locality:
Capri Island
(
Naples
,
Tyrrhenian Sea
,
Italy
) and
Paludi
al
Vasto
(
Naples
,
Italy
)
.
Original description:
“labbro internamente d’un rosso vivo” [internal part of the lip marked with bright red].
Material examined:
four glued shells labelled “Dono Bellini” [Donated by Bellini] and “
Helix
(
Heliomanes
)
subprofuga
Sta.
—(
Xerophila
)—Capri” and labelled by Bellini “
Helix subprofuga
, Stabile—Capri
” (MZF2—Z6969); 18 shells labelled by Bellini “
H.
(
Xerophila
)
subprofuga
, Stabile—juv.—Capri” (MCCIC—drawer 19, n. 297b). All these shells belong to the
Cernuella cisalpina
(Rossmässler, 1837)
species complex.
Remarks:
having been instituted on the basis of insignificant morphological characteristics, we rank it infrasubspecific, and thus not available (
ICZN 2012
: Art.
10.2, 45
.5, 45.6, glossary).
Alzona (1971)
listed “
hoemastoma
Bellini 1915
” as a synonym of
Helicella
(
Cernuella
)
subprofuga
(Stabile, 1864)
, now
Cernuella cisalpina
(Rossmässler, 1837)
.
Helix subprofuga
var.
hoemastoma
Bellini, 1915
would be also preoccupied by
Helix haemastoma
Linnaeus, 1758
.
Manganelli & Giusti (1988)
considered this taxon as belonging to the “small
Cernuella
group”, with an uncertain identity. Specimens ascribed to
C. cisalpina
were found again in Capri Island during recent field studies (
Petraccioli
et al.
2005
,
2006
).
