Remarks.
Sakai
et al.
(2015b)
reported the
holotype
and
paratype
from station 14862-1 at a depth of
545 m
, a depth confirmed in the cruise report (
Westphal
et al.
2014
). The depth (
82 m
) and the cruise number (11/3 instead of 16/3) given on the labels are errors, as is the placement of this station on their map (
Sakai 2015b: fig. 1
).
The male pleopod 1 differs slightly between the
holotype
and
paratype
, the former having a proximal rounded tip and a distal acute tip (
Fig. 4B–E
), while the latter has two acute tips (
Fig. 4F
). In addition, the length/width ratio of the articles differs between the two specimens.
Neocallianopsis africana
was described from an incomplete, damaged specimen, lacking both chelipeds and the pleon posterior to pleomere 3. It came from station 14848-1, one of the same stations where
P. mauritana
was recorded. Except for lacking a dorsal oval (see above) it apparently does not differ from
P. mauritana
and is thus synonymised here.
