This species belongs to the A. ( Atopsaura ) longipennis Group. The male can be recognized by the dorsal apex of the phallotheca that bears two bifid and divergent branches ( Schmid 1989 ). Examined material. BRAZIL : Bahia , Abaíra, Distrito de Catolés de Cima , Serra do Barbado , Mata da Forquilha (porteira), Rio Brenha , 13°17’33.4’’S , 41°53’46.1’’W , elev. 1,522 m , 02.xi.2013 , UV Light Pan Trap, Calor, A.R. ; Dias, E. & Campos, R. , 2 males (alcohol; UFBA ) . Distribution. Brazil ( Bahia , Minas Gerais ). Remarks. These specimens are from Chapada Diamantina, Bahia State, and provide the first record of the species since its original description ( type locality Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais State). There is a connection from Bahia to Minas Gerais States through Serra do Espinhaço, with Precambrian rock mountains extending about 1,200 km from Bahia State (northern limit) to Minas Gerais State (southern limit). These specimens from Bahia State have preanal appendages rounder and more setose, without filipods, and parapods each with its apical half thicker than its basal half in lateral and ventral views ( Figs. 8A 8D ). Also, each inferior appendage has a first article that is slender and sinuous basally in ventral view ( Fig. 8B ). The phallic apparatus has a phallotheca with “beaks” apically blunt in lateral view ( Fig. 8A ), in dorsal view ( Fig. 8E ) the phallotheca is slender basally, broader at the middle, and with a pair of posterodorsal processes each with two apical points.
