Lellinger, Amer. Fern J. 61: 115. 1971 . Range: —Greater Antilles; mountains from Mexico to eastern Venezuela , south to Bolivia (CO, LP, SC, TA) and southeastern Brazil . Ecology: —Common; terrestrial in humid forests and grasslands above treeline; 2000 3450 m , 1200 3750 m elsewhere. Notes:Mickel & Smith (2004) discussed the complex and wide variation of this species in Mexico , especially transitional forms in venation and serrulation of the pinna-margins, as well as the reduction (or not) of the proximal pinnae, all characters used by Lellinger (1971) to delineate different species in the Neotropics.
