Antenna 1 peduncle article 1 distally expanded, without subrectangular extended mediodistal lobe . Maxilliped palp 4-articulate. Pereopods subprehensile. Propodi of pereopods proximomarginally expanded with proximal group of 1–3 robust setae and additionally 1 distal robust seta (on pereopods 1–4 posteromarginally and on pereopods 5–7 anteromarginally) . Basis of pereopods 5–7 ovate, ventrally more or less expanded. Pleopod 1 with rectangular peduncle, pleopod 3 with medially strongly produced peduncle; rami of pleopods 1–2 long and subequal in length, inner ramus of pleopod 3 very short. Type species. Gabophlias olono J.L. Barnard, 1972 , original designation. Included species. Gabophlias includes 3 species: G. gabiae sp. nov. ; G. olono J.L. Barnard, 1972 ; G. kerstinae sp. nov.
