Diagnosis:
Schismatothelinae can be distinguished the other Neotropical
Theraphosidae
by the combination of the following characters: absence of urticating setae, lack of stridulatory organ in the maxillae (lyra), non-dense scopulae, presence of both thickened and clavate trichobothria located on the apical lateral faces of tibiae I-IV, and numerous and dense cuspules on the labium located on a raised area.
