Remarks . Synonym of olivacea G.B. Sowerby I , teste G.B. Sowerby III (1916: 68) and Connolly (1939: 556) . Possible senior synonym of ovum Troschel , teste Brown (1980: 54) but purpurea and ovum both treated as valid species by Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 195) , Brown (1994: 63) and Berthold (1991: 246) , followed here, who all placed purpurea in Lanistes subg. Meladomus .
