Pennisetia contracta ( Walker, 1856b: 11 ) Sphecia Type locality: Hindostan [ India ] . Distribution in India : Assam ( Hampson 1919 ). Global records: Indian endemic. Remarks: Sphecia fixseni Leech [1889] , described from Japan has been treated as a junior synonym of P. contracta described from Hindustan [ India ] by most of the authors including Hampson (1919) , thus extending the distribution range of P. contracta upto Japan . However, Arita (1992) stated that the two taxa are undoubtedly distinct species, and revived the species staus of P. fixeni thus delimiting the distributional ranges of both the species.
