Remarks:
Helix surrentina
Von Martens, 1858
is a junior synonym of
Marmorana fuscolabiata
(Rossmässler, 1842)
(
Alzona 1971
;
Bodon
et al.
1995
). Having been instituted as a geographic race, we rank
Helix surrentina
var.
anacaprica
Bellini, 1915
subspecific, and thus available (
ICZN 2012
: Art. 10, glossary). Considered a synonym of
Marmorana fuscolabiata
(Rossmässler, 1842)
by some authors (
Sacchi 1955b
;
Fasulo 2013
), whilst
Alzona (1971)
initially considered it a synonym of
M. fuscolabiata
and then a
species dubia
.
Fiorentino
et al.
(2010)
recently reviewed the
Marmorana
species complex, supporting a reassessment of their taxonomy both at genus and species level and calling for further analysis. Thus,
H. surrentina
var.
anacaprica
is here considered as belonging to the
M. fuscolabiata
species complex. Specimens ascribed to
M. fuscolabiata
were found again in Capri Island during recent field studies (
Petraccioli
et al.
2005
,
2006
).
