Fig. 1
) dark brown with purple sheen, iridescent blue laterally on T1.
Head
. Non-collapsing, very finely reticulate, dull; head in dorsal view about 1.8 times as wide as long and about 1.8 times as wide as vertex, slightly wider than thorax, in frontal view 1.3 times as wide as long; clypeus inconspicuous, oval-shaped; eye about one and a half times as long as malar space, fine malar groove present; ocelli small, IOL 5, OOL 3, POL 9; eyes with very short white hairs; antennae inserted just below lower level of eyes, small longitudinal reticulated ridge between toruli, small shiny depression laterad at scrobes, scrobes fairly deep, shiny, strigulate, parallel-sided, slightly widening at apex; antenna (
Fig. 9
) with scape cylindrical (13:2), nearly reaching median ocellus, longer than club (13:10), pedicel slightly longer but narrower than funicle segments which are subquadrate, increasing slightly in width towards club; club one-segmented (no discernible septa at high magnification), wider than funicle; rhinaria as long as segments (diagonal on F1); short setae present on funicle segments and club; funicle as long as head width.
Mesosoma.
Thorax with sculpture as on head, mesopleuron reticulate, upper mesepimeron, except dorsally, smooth and shiny; pronotum short, with a row of backward-pointing setae on hind margin; notauli deep and complete, side lobes convex; axillae with 3–5 white inward-facing setae; mesoscutum as long as scutellum, with short slender setae, more or less arranged in 4 longitudinal lines; scutellum with two pairs of long setae; fore wing (
Fig. 5
) rounded at apex, about two and a half times as long as wide, 4–6 setae on submarginal vein, two on parastigma, 8 or 9 curved setae below marginal vein on ventral side of disc; no hairlines in distal part of wing; marginal vein less than one and a half times as long as submarginal, postmarginal slightly shorter than stigmal, stigmal vein forming angle of 45˚ with postmarginal vein, stigmal knob not expanded, fringe setae of forewing as long as stigmal vein; dorsellum short and sculptured, longer at centre, where it is longer than propodeum; propodeum short and bow-tie-shaped, anterior and posterior margins meeting medially, more lightly sculptured than rest of mesosoma, two setae on callus.
Metasoma.
Gaster (
Fig. 1
) smooth and shiny with slight sculpture ventrally at base, elongated and pointed, collapsing dorsally, nearly twice as long as mesosoma in lateral view, posterior margin of T1 incised medially, T2 only slightly angled, irregularly placed setae ventrally, T5 and T6 with slight reticulations and setae laterally; cercus with three short setae of equal length, epipygium smooth, shiny, slightly bulging upwards; ovipositor extended, setose, about length of T5.
Male.
Colour on body and infuscations on wings reduced compared to female, smaller than female in size; antenna (

Remarks.
The wing pattern and antennal colour of
A. micans
are closest to
A maculipennis
Walker
, but the latter differs in that the scape is “yellow, very long, black towards the tip” (
Walker 1872: 126
), whereas the scape of
A. micans
is brown with both ends yellow. Further, females of
A. maculipennis
have filiform antennal segments in contrast to those of
A. micans
, which are subquadrate, the angle between the stigmal and postmarginal veins of
A. maculipennis
(
Hedqvist 1969, fig. 2B
) is wider than 45º, and the head and thorax are copper and bronze coloured (
Walker 1872
), whereas individuals of
A. micans
have distinctive stripes on the head and thorax. The wing pattern of
A. micans
is also somewhat similar to that of
A. arithmeticus
(
Bouček 1963, fig. 15
), but that species has spindle-shaped female antennal segments with narrowed apices, and the head and thorax lack stripes (
Bouček 1963, fig. 14 and key
). The antennal colour of both sexes of
A. micans
also resembles that of
A. bachmaieri
Doġanlar
and the two species have somewhat similar forewing patterns, however,
A. micans
has three distinctive round infuscated patches at the apex of the wing (
Fig. 5
), which are absent from
A. bachmaieri
(
Doġanlar 1992, fig. 3
).
