Procontarinia
comprises 16 described species (including the new species), all of which feed on mango. Larvae are similar to
Contarinia
. Adults have simple or toothed tarsal claws, a small or large occipital protuberance on the head, binodal male flagellomeres with separate circumfila on either node, a prominent aedeagus bearing small asetulose pores and an ovipositor that bears large cerci.
Procontarinia
contains species that have a 3- or 4- segmented maxillary palpus, male terminalia with or without mesobasal lobes, aedeagus tapered or blunt, ovipositor that is long or short, and female cerci that are fused or partially separated.
