This species has one of the most extensive north to south distributions of any cicada species. It has been reported from central Argentina to the southern United States ( Metcalf 1963a ; Duffels and van der Laan 1985 ; Sanborn et al. 1995b ; Sanborn 2001 , 2006b , 2007a ,b; Sueur 2002 ; Boulard 2005 ; Salazar Escobar 2005 ; De Santis et al. 2007 ). The species has been reported from Manaure ( Distant 1881a ; Jacobi 1907 ), Cauca , Tomlima, Caldas , Cundinamarca , Antioquia and Santander ( Figueroa Potes 1952 ), Caldas , Río Cauca and Tolima , Mariquita-El Bosque ( Salazar Escobar 2005 ) in Colombia .
