( Figs 1, 2 , 29 ) Material examined. Holotype . ♂, Guangxi, Guilin, Maoershan, 500–1500 m , 6.–10.VIII.2007 ( SCAU ). Paratypes . 1♂ , 1♀, same date as holotype (♂, Fig. 1 , CAK , ♀, Fig. 2 , NSMT ); 4♂ , 1♀, same locality, 730 m , 11.–15.VIII.2009 ( NSMT , CAK , 1♂ Gen. Prep. AK654); 1 ♂ , Prov. Guandong, Shaoguang, Nanling, 800 m , 10.VII.2010 ( NSMT ). Description. Male ( Fig. 1 ). Wingspan 33 mm ; forewing length 15 mm ; body length 21 mm . Head: labial palps white ventrally and baso-laterally; frons grey-black, white laterally; pericephalic scales white ventrally and laterally; patagia with few white scales laterally. Fore coxa with white lateral edge, mid femur with white border laterally; first tarsomer of hind leg with white spot distally. Forewing: with few white scales at the base; discal spot very wide, with a large red spot in its centre; ventrally similar but red mark more extensive. Hindwing: largely transparent, with broad outer margin and strong discal spot; opaque between veins Cu1 and Cu2. Abdomen: tergites black; sternites with white distal borders; valva with white scales; anal tuft black, long and slender. Female ( Fig. 2 ). Almost identical to male. Antennae simple. Genitalia. Male (Gen. prep. AK654, Fig. 29 ). Uncus (a) long and slender, with soft setae apically; gnathos (b) with simple ventral margin with two short and rounded projections; valva long, dorsal field of ventral surface (c) covered with soft, multi-tipped setae, each with ca 8 tips; ventral area of valva surface (d) with simple soft setae; basal patch (e) with strong pointed setae; phallus straight, shorter than valva, with a subapical plate with 4–5 small teeth (f). Diagnosis. A very distinctive species; most body parts black with a bluish sheen, with a distinct red discal spot and a slender body. It is not similar to any known representatives of Paranthrene or related genera.
