Etymology:
“
Chaetocnema
” is a Latin transcription of a composition having Greek origin from two words: χαίτη (chajté, meaning hair or seta) and κνήμη (knémé, meaning tibia), both words are feminine in Greek. Substanti- vum knémé gramatically does not end with “-nema” but only with “-a” because kném- is root of the word and the rest “-a” is the word termination (contrary to frequent examples terminating with “-ma”—those are true neuteral). Therefore the name
Chaetocnema
is undoubtedly feminine.
