Synopsis of the genus Amphicoma Latreille (Coleoptera: Glaphyridae) of Taiwan with special reference to the male genitalia Author Li, Chun-Lin Author Wang, Chuan-Chan Author Chen, Hou-Jay text Zootaxa 2011 2790 23 34 journal article 10.5281/zenodo.206618 f5b1d7ac-ca42-4e4c-b2d0-b96771bc085c 1175-5326 206618 Genus Amphicoma Latreille, 1807 Amphicoma Latreille, 1807: 118 . Type species: Melolontha abdominalis Fabricius, 1781 by original designation. Amphitriche Gistel, 1848 : 162 (junior synonym) Anthypnoides Yawata, 1942 : 34 (junior synonym) Arrhephora Fairmaire, 1891 : 8 (junior synonym) Toxocerus Fairmaire, 1891 : 7 (junior synonym) Amphicoma can be separated from other glaphyrid genera by the following combination of characters: body surface pilose, setae moderate in length; male antennal club elongated, not cupuliform, antennal club outwardly/ inwardly curved; clypeus widened at base; mesoepimeron not visible dorsally; scutellum elongate-triangular; abdomen not elongate, prepygidium/tergite rarely exposed when viewed dorsally; protibia bidentate or tridentate, basal teeth weakly developed/vestigial; apex of male mesotibia with incision; metafemora not broadly enlarged; metatibia straight, not curved inwardly; protarsomeres 1–4 without comb-like spines and apical protarsomere longer than the basal three protarsomeres measured together. Distribution. Eastern to southwestern China , Indochina, Japan , Ryukyu Archipelago (both islands of Iriomotejima and Ishigakijima), Taiwan , Switzerland , Greece , Spain and Italy . Remarks. Nikodým (2005) divided the genus Amphicoma into four species groups: A. corinthia , A . abdominalis , A. florentini and A. dubia , based on three male character states of the mesotibial spur, the curviform antennal club and the length of antennal club. This delimitation of the species group concepts is roughly applicable to a local fauna like in Taiwan , but it may not be appropriate when considering phylogenetic relationships within the entire genus. We therefore will refrain from using Amphicoma species groups until a comprehensive phylogenetic analysis is conducted for the genus.
