Type species: Cunedda phaeops Distant , type by original designation. Yellowish brown leafhoppers with dark brown and black markings. Macropterous. Head conically produced in front of eyes. Crown with median keel slightly laminately raised in apical half, and lateral keels. Ocelli placed ventrad of lateral keel in depression formed between dorsal keel and ventral carina not reaching eye and joining lateral keel short distance beyond ocellus. Crown disc smooth and polished, one round raised tubercle like area in basal half of crown bissected by median keel. Frontoclypeus large with median keel slightly overhanging clypellus. Clypellus broad basally, apex rather flat. Frontoclypeus, clypellus and narrow elongate lora granulated. Genae smooth polished with a few wrinkles. Pronotum widened posteriorly, broader than head, transversely faintly rugose punctate, rugae more like wrinkles and polished. Mesonotum with basal triangles shagreen, rest faintly sculptured, apex beyond impressed line transversely faintly rugose. Forewing venation clear, claval veins straight, separate. Forefemur macrosetal row AV with four enlarged basal setae, remaining setae slender, row AM with microsetae except enlarged AM1 occupying usual place, intercalary setae hair-like, forming curved row. Fore tibia with short row of 3–5 setae at base between rows AD and AV ( Fig. 8 A ). Hind femur distal macrosetae 2+2+1. Hind tibial rows AD 13–14, PD 20–23, AV 17–18. Hind basitarsus with three spines in place of platellae on transverse row ( Fig. 9 B ). Male pygofer without ventral process, lobe well separated with basal fracture. Valve distinct. Subgenital plate with basal short segment, with oblique row of stout macrosetae along mesal border and more slender setae laterad, lateral margin with marginal row of hair-like setae. Style short, with foot shaped apex of apophysis, heel well developed, toe narrowed and elongated. Connective Y-shaped with long stem. Aedeagus large, ventral extension of atrium short, shaft slender finger-like, uniform in width with apical gonopore; ventral angular projection prominent and large, dorsolateral lobes large, devoid of apical processes, in posterodorsal view appearing wing-like. Segment X well sclerotized, elongate. Female with first pair of valvulae slightly curved, sculptured area occupying more than half length distally. Second pair of valvulae with toothed area expanded, occupying distal half length, teeth distinct well separated and without secondary dentition. Remarks. Cunedda differs from Pythamus in having smooth surface of vertex and also in having lighter coloration. Cunedda also resembles the genus Mainda as these two and also Pythamus have lamellate median carina on crown. Mainda and Cunedda very closely resemble each other but differ in the shape of the head – in Cunedda the median carina is lamellate whereas in Mainda the crown has broad longitudinal ridge bearing the median carina.
