Head and thorax orange yellow, more yellow on anterior part of crown, more orange on remaining crown and pronotum; one median, one lateral marginal spots on either side and one small spot at base of median carina, dark brown. Pronotum with median stripe in posterior half and posterior marginal stripe, fuscous. Median stripe along median carina on frontoclypeus, one submarginal stripe, fuscous. Forewing clavus fuscous with median longitudinal reddish stripe, outer marginal narrow stripe on clavus, vein M, all costal margin, fuscous. Apices of femora and fore tibiae with orange tinge. Female genitalia. Seventh sternite slightly narrowed posteriorly, posterior margin with deep V-shaped median excavation, lateral angles acutely rounded. Measurements. Female 6.4 mm long, 1.4 mm wide across eyes and 1.6 mm wide across hind margins of pronotum. Material examined. MYANMAR : Lectotype (designated by D.A. Young (1965: 169) ( Figs 6 A–D ), “Upper Burma , Mamyo, 3500 ft , 19–21.viii.14 , Fletcher, Coll.” “Pusa Coll. 1915-164” “ Apphia burmanica Dist. Type [Distant’s hw]” “ Type H. T. [red edged disc]” ( BMNH ). Remarks. Originally described from an unspecified number of specimens ( syntype ) with the following data: “Upper Burma ; Maymyo, 3500ft (Bainbrigge Fletcher)”. This species can be readily recognized by its distinctive beautiful coloration. Dietrich (2004) illustrated the male genitalia of a specimen identified as this species from Thailand . The male pygofer has a slender S-shaped ventral process that exceeds the dorsal margin; the aedeagus has strong basal bulbous and distal parts which are separated by a strong ventral marginal constriction, and the dorsolateral lobes are well developed and lack quadrate lobe like processes found in A. flava sp. nov.
