Anobsobiidae can be separated from
Henicopidae
by the possession of an acute ventrodistal projection on the coxa of the 15th leg and a lack of ocelli. None of the tergites are produced, as they are in
Zygethobius
.
Anopsobiid male gonopods in North America appear stouter than those of henicopids, with shorter terminal filaments. With the exception of species of
Buethobius
,
Catanopsobius
and the new genus
Speleopsobius
,
anobsobiids have at least single spurs on the prefemora of the 15th legs, and some genera have additional spurs. The genera have not been grouped into subfamilies or tribes, though the North American anopsobiids, sharing the character of a complete lack of spurs on the legs, likely represent a coherent taxon that should be recognized at least at the tribal level, depending on more thorough study.
