FAMILY: TACHINIDAE . REMARKS: Biomya Rondani (1856: 72) was proposed without included species. Rondani (1861e: 53) proposed Viviania as a new replacement name for Fabricia Meigen, 1838 and placed Biomya in synonymy. In that work, two species were included under Viviania : Tachina pacta Meigen, 1824 and Viviania nubilis Rondani, 1861 . Sabrosky & Arnaud (1965: 1048) treated these as the first two species included in Biomya and selected Tachina pacta Meigen, 1824 [= Tachina cinerea Fallén, 1810 ] as the type species of Biomya , which was followed by O’Hara & Wood (2004: 111) . We disagree with the interpretation because Biomya was not treated as the valid name for the genus as required by the ICZN Code Article 67.2.2; the two included species were meant for Viviania only. However, there is an earlier, valid type-species designation. Coquillett (1910: 514) stated that Biomya was originally proposed without included species and designated Tachina cinerea Fallén, 1810 as its type species. Coquillett’s (1910) designation is the first inclusion of species specifically in Biomya Rondani, 1856 . Coquillett (1910) erred in stating that Viviania was a change of name for Biomya , since Rondani (1861e: 48) clearly proposed Viviania as a new replacement name for Fabricia Meigen, 1838 .
