Gram positive, rod-shaped, catalase negative, homofermentative and aerotolerant. The genome size ranges from 2.33 to 3.47 Mbp; the mol% G+C content of DNA ranges from 42.1 to 44.0. Origin, physiological properties and genome characteristics suggest a free-living lifestyle of the genus. Isolated from compost that included shochu mash and from vegetables (mustard) in Indonesia and China. The type species of the genus is A. composti .
