Flavoperla retusata
Mo, Li & Wang
,
sp. nov.
(
Figs. 1–5
)
Adult habitus
. Biocellate. Male adult color yellow in life, and paler in alcohol. Head pale with an M-shaped dark brown marking behind M-line, a triangular dark brown spot between ocelli, and with a smaller triangular dark brown spot in front of pale M-line; antennae brown; palpi pale brown; head slightly wider than pronotum (
Figs. 1a
,
4a
). Pronotum brown, elliptical, with paler rugosities; corners obtuse. Wing membrane pale yellow, veins yellow; legs, abdominal segments and cerci yellow.
Male
(
Figs. 1b–1f
,
2
,
3
). Forewing length
9.1–9.4 mm
(n=4). Hindwing
8.1–8.4 mm
. Tergum 10 with triangular epiproct sclerite positioned between and caudad to paired sclerotized triangular spines, positioned posterolaterally (
Fig. 1b
); epiproct sclerites with a small membranous triangular basal area. Paraprocts curved dorsally, triangular with blunt tip. Hammer brown basally with wing-shaped anterolateral extensions; apical half unpigmented and triangular in ventral view; apex slightly swollen, cylindrical in lateral view (
Figs. 1c–1e
,
2c–2d
). Everted aedeagus (
Figs. 1f
,
2
,
3
) membranous, tubular, with a pair of large rounded lobes in basolateral area and a pair of small swollen lobes in mediolateral area; dorsal surface of apical half and apical surface mostly covered with tiny pale brown spines; subapical part with a pair of smaller lateral lobes and a pair of ventral patches composed of tiny pale brown spines, and with a short ventral process; apical part with a short nose-shaped sclerite, a mustache-shaped sclerite, and a slender sclerite (
Figs. 1f
,
2
,
3
).
Female
(
Fig. 4
). Forewing length
10.3–10.5 mm
(n=4). Hindwing length
9.3–9.5 mm
. Habitus generally similar to male except body color darker. Abdomens of collected females full of mature eggs. Subgenital plate large, rectangular, slightly constricted subapically, with a deeply triangular posterior notch forming a pair of apical lobes with blunt tips, and reaching beyond midpoint of sternum 10. Sternum 9 slightly sclerotized, deeply emarginate posteromedially (
Fig. 4c
). Sternum 10 poorly sclerotized.

Egg
(
Fig. 5
). Length 367–439 μm, width 252–288 μm (n=4). Outline chicken egg-shaped with distinct opercu- lar line, widest towards collar end. Anchor mushroom-shaped with long tentacle-like projections, globular bodies evenly distributed and not grouped. Collar short and fully covered by anchor. Chorionic surface covered with shallow but distinct punctations throughout, pentagonal or hexagonal follicular cell impressions recognizable only on opercular end. Micropylar orifices sessile, much larger than chorionic punctations, set on subequatorial line.
