Type species: Nyctimene argiloides Thomson, 1857 . Nyctimenius Gressitt, 1951 : 629 (replacement name for Nyctimene Thomson, 1857 ); Breuning 1970 : 77 ; Rondon & Breuning 1970 : 495 ; Heffern 2005 : 47 . Type species: Nyctimene argiloides Thomson, 1857 . Diagnosis. Nyctimenius can be distinguished from other genera in following characters: antennae slender and distinctly longer than body, with antennomere IX white or pale yellow; elytra distinctly emarginate apically, with marginal angle extended beyond sutural angle; legs short, with hind leg not extended beyond abdominal apex. Redescription. Antennae black or brown, antennomere IX white or pale yellow and covered with short white hairs. Pronotum densely covered with white or yellow hairs forming two or three longitudinal vittae. Scutellum densely covered with grayish white or pale yellow hairs. Elytron moderately covered with short dense grayish white or yellow hairs forming two or three longitudinal vittae on dorsal surface. Legs covered with short grayish white hairs. Body small and elongate, gradually depressed above from base of elytra to elytral apex. Frons flat, constricted by eyes, sparsely punctured; eyes finely faceted, lower eye lobe and upper eye lobe almost completely separated, lower eye lobe semi-oval; antennal tubercles not raised, but distant; antennae slender, distinctly longer than body, scape elongate and gradually thickened towards apex, antennomere XI shortest among segments III–XI. Pronotum sub-cylindrical and punctured, longer than broad, with a transverse groove at apex and at base; disc narrowly margined at apex and at base, constricted before and behind middle; prosternal process broad at apex (compare with coxae) and lower than procoxae, procoxal cavities closed posteriorly. Scutellum sub-truncated or rounded apically. Elytra broader than pronotum basally and gradually constricted posteriorly, truncated and distinctly emarginate at apex, marginal and sutural angles distinctly projected posteriorly, marginal angles extended beyond sutural angles; disc covered with punctures at basal half, the punctures gradually finer and sparser towards apex. Mesosternal process broad, mesocoxal cavities open externally to mesepimera. Metanepisternum long and narrow. Abdominal segment I longest among I–V. Legs short, mesotibia with an oblique external preapical groove, hind legs not reaching abdominal apex, metafemora not extended beyond apex of abdominal segment II. Comments. Nyctimenius is similar to Pothyne Thomson but distinctly different from the latter by the antennomere IX white or pale yellow, elytra distinctly emarginate at apex, marginal and sutural angles distinctly projected posteriorly, and marginal angles distinctly extended beyond sutural angles.
