Native range. (South Asia), Southeast Asia, and China . Remarks. Many breeding populations are found in the northern New Territories and some parts of Lantau Island, where they occur in stagnant waters. During heavy rain, they have been observed attempting to colonise new habitats by travelling across the inundated terrestrial landscape.
