Note:
Schouteden (1909b)
proposed
Ectomocoris biguttatus
as a
nomen novum
for this species, presumably due to
Peirates bimaculatus
Audinet-Serville, 1831
, a junior synonym of
Ectomocoris fenestratus
(
Klug, 1830
)
. However,
Stål (1865)
synonymized
Peirates bimaculatus
directly with
Peirates fenestratus
Klug, 1830
, meaning the epithet
bimaculatus
had never been used in
Ectomocoris
. Thus,
Schouteden’s (1909a)
original name remains valid and his nomen novum is unnecessary. Both
Putshkov & Putshkov (1987)
and
Maldonado Capriles (1990)
followed
Schouteden’s (1909b)
erroneous treatment.
