Diagnosis . Wing expanse: 12‒13mm (n = 12). This species is easily distinguished by the female genitalia ( Fig. 7 ), with a very short ductus bursae and constricted before merging into the bursa, with a long oblong bursa; with the accessory bursa small (one-half the size of that of C. pichita n. sp. , C. moyobamba n. sp. , and C. vesta , but larger than that of C. huemboana ; lacking in C. tornocarpa ). Materials examined. Holotype . Female, Volcan Santa Maria [ca. 800–2000 m ?], [Quetzaltenango], Guatemala , [1906?], W. Schaus & T. Barnes (gen. slide JFGC-11223) ( USNM type 69740) . Paratypes . Females (6), same data as holotype (June, July, Nov. [1906?]) (gen. slide JFGC-11630) ( USNM ) . Additional specimens examined (n = 5). Costa Rica : Braulio Carillo N. P. ( 1100 m ), Heredia , July [1972] ( 1 adult ) ( VOB ) . Turrialba ( 600 m ), Cartago , July [1972] ( 1 adult ) ( VOB ) . Neily ( 800 m ), Puntarenas , Nov. [1972] ( 1 adult ) ( VOB ) . Ecuador : Tinalandia , Pichincha ( 980 m ) ( 1 adult ) ( UCB ) . Mexico : Huatusco ( 1300 m ), Veracruz , August [1971] ( 1 male ) ( VOB ) . FIGURE 18 . Distribution map of known localities for Cirrothaumatia species (NGS base map): C. huemboana n. sp. , yellow square (Peru: Amazonas). C. moyobamba n. sp. , black-bordered white square (Peru: San Martín). C. pichita n. sp. , white square (Peru: Junín). C. tornocarpa (Meyrick) , red square (Panama: Chiriquí). C. tornosema (Clarke) , black squares (Mexico: Veracruz; Guatemala: Quetzaltenango; Costa Rica: Cartago, Heredia, and Puntarenas; and Ecuador: Pichincha). C. vesta (Clarke) , blue square (Venezuela: Aragua). Biology . Unknown. Distribution . Known from montane areas of southeastern Mexico ( Veracruz ) to western Guatemala ( Quetzaltenango ) and in Costa Rica ( Cartago , Heredia , and Puntarenas ), plus northern Ecuador ( Pichincha ). Discussion . Specimens of this species from Central America were identified by Razowski and Becker (1986) ; the putative conspecific from Ecuador was identified by Razowski and Pelz (2001) . These specimens were not available for study, so details of the genitalia could not be verified, especially for the specimens from Ecuador and Mexico .
