India ; Pamir, Tien Shan, Altai, and other ranges, north to Lake Baikal, and east through Mongolia to Sinkiang ( China ). COMMENT: Includes argentatus and barakschin; see Heptner and Rossolimo, 1968, Sbor. Tr. Zool. Mus. Moscow State Univ., 10:53-93; but argentatus may be a distinct species and barakschin may be a subspecies of stoliczkanus ; see Gromov and Polyakov, 1977 , [Voles (Microtinae), Fauna U.S. S.R.], Nauka, Moscow and Leningrad, 3(8):129.
