Discussion.
Unlike the case of
Melanopsis
narzolina elongata
Locard, 1878, this taxon was not synonymized by
Wenz (1929a
, p. 2693). Despite separating it from
Melanopsis citharella
, Wenz noted that this form is probably indistinguishable from the nominal species. After review of Locard's description and illustrations we fully agree with Wenz, and draw the taxonomic conclusion to synonymize
Melanopsis citharella elongata
with
Melanopsis citharella
. Hence, although it is a primary homonym, we avoid introducing another superfluous name.
