Calycomyza malvae is a polyphagous species, associated with several host-plants of the family Malvaceae ( Benavent-Corai et al. 2005 ; Eiseman & Lonsdale 2018 ). Larvae form linear mines on the surface of the leaf. Adults of this species are similar to C. sidae Spencer but are differentiated by the narrower mesophallus and membranous extension on the distiphallus.
