Currently, Ischnothyreus includes 124 species, most of which have been recorded from tropical regions in East to Southeast Asia, and Australia ( World Spider Catalog 2023 ). The genus was established based on the type species I. peltifer from St. Vincent ( Simon 1893 ). The genus is characterized by small- or intermediate- sized scutum on the dorsum of abdomen that rarely cover the entire abdomen, dark colored and sclerotized palp, and the absence of scutum between the epigastric region and spinnerets ( Saaristo 2001 ; Saaristo 2010 ; Ono 2009 ; Brescovit et al . 2019 ).
