Eugenia coetzalensis
Durán-Espinosa & Castillo-Campos, Phytotaxa
349: 180 (2018)
EOO:
32.395 km
².
AOO:
8 km
².
Evaluation of IUCN:
Endangered.
Eugenia coetzalensis
is endemic to
Mexico
and its distribution comprises the states of
Veracruz
and
Oaxaca
(
Durán
et al
. 2018
). The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) fall within the thresholds of Critically Endangered category under the criterion B. There are inferred two locations based on only 3 collections available. The biome where the species occurs is the Humid Tropical Forest, which is fragmented due to agricultural activities and urban expansion (
CONABIO 2018
). Considering those as major threats, a continuing decline of habitat quality is inferred. The low number of records for species indicates that greater efforts are needed for scientific studies for the species, including the genus in the region, to obtain new data for future evaluations. Therefore, as there is no evidence that its population is severely fragmented or it is under any kind of extreme fluctuation,
Eugenia coetzalensis
is classified as Endangered (EN) as it meets the criteria B1ab(iii)+B2b(iii).
