A Nearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Rodentia : Cricetidae , but they have also been collected from other Mammalia (several orders), and Passeriformes : Passerellidae , Parulidae and Turdidae (rarely as adult ticks). Adults and nymphs have been recovered from Galliformes : Phasianidae ; adults and larvae have been taken from Passeriformes : Troglodytidae ; while immature stages have been recorded from Aves (several orders) (Guglielmone et al. 2014, Guglielmone & Robbins 2018 , Scott et al. 2018 ). Ixodes muris is a frequent parasite of humans.
