Studies on Dendrothripinae (Thysanoptera, Thripidae) from Japan, with new records and one new species Author Masumoto, Masami Author Okajima, Shûji text Zootaxa 2017 2017-12-06 4362 3 405 420 journal article 31227 10.11646/zootaxa.4362.3.5 f09405a9-0a03-41ad-8b58-fd8936870827 1175-5326 1094938 B205D4BC-2EBD-437F-AF72-F1B9F6DDD2F2 Pseudodendrothrips darci (Girault) ( Figs 5 , 43 ) Proscirtothrips darci Girault, 1930 : 1 . This Australian species is very similar to P. bhattii as indicated above, but the pronotum usually has paired longitudinal dark markings ( Fig. 5 ), although these are often weak, whereas P. bhattii never has such dark markings on the pronotum. Mound (1999) stated P. darci was not distinguishable from P. bhatti collected from Morus in Thailand, and suggested that P. darci , P. bhattii and P. mori might represent a single species. However, at least females of this species may be distinguished from the two Japanese species by stout setae on abdominal tergite and sternite IX ( Figs 42, 43 ). P. darci is newly recorded from Ficus spp. and Toxicodendron succedaneum [ Anacardiaceae ] in Okinawa, Japan. Moreover, specimens from Morus at Bangkok, Thailand that were identified as P. bhatti in Mound (1999) are now recognized as P. darci , and specimens have also been studied from Morus at Kolkata, India [L.Mound in litt. 16.x.2017 ].
